LAKELAND - Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Lakeland with temperatures expected to reach 29-degrees Celsius or higher.

The high temperatures, combined with overnight lows near 14 degrees, are expected to last until Tuesday night.

Residents are being advised to consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, take frequent breaks from the heat, drink plenty of water, and check for children and pets before exiting your vehicle and not to leave any person or pet inside of a closed vehicle for any length of time.

In addition to taking frequent breaks from the sun, Environment Canada is encouraging the public to watch out for signs of heat exhaustion, which include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.

"Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated," the Environment Canada website states.

"Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion."
