Hunters gather in St. Paul for annual Trophy Measuring Day

Hunters in the Lakeland, and some coming from different parts of the province, gathered for the fourth annual Trophy Measuring Day at the St. Paul Recreation Centre on Dec. 14.

ST. PAUL – Hunters in the Lakeland, and some coming from different parts of the province, gathered for the fourth annual Trophy Measuring Day at the St. Paul Recreation Centre on Dec. 14.

Hosted by the St. Paul Fish and Game Association (SPFGA), 33 hunters competed to find out who secured the biggest game over the past year.

"It was a tougher hunting season this year, so we were a bit down from previous years, but we still had a great turnout," said Jonathan Shapka, chair of the event. He thanked everyone who participated, as well as sponsors who help keep the event running.

Shapka invites other hunters to participate in the future. He also encourages individuals who want to help out with events like the Trophy Measuring Day and other SPFGA initiatives to reach out to the association, and this includes younger people who may want to share a different perspective.

"We're looking for some younger people to bring different ideas and to help allow these events to keep going," he said. "Anybody who wants to come help, reach out to the [SPFGA], for sure."
