LAKELAND – If you're from the Lakeland area and hunting for a new job, the St. Paul and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a regional job fair on Oct. 17 at the St. Paul Recreation Centre.

The local chamber partnered with the Alberta Chamber of Commerce to host the job fair to help businesses find staff, and to potentially support people in the community looking for a job.

Chamber executive director Yvonne Weinmeier said the job fair is being hosted after businesses expressed their struggles with finding staff. “There's some skill issue and there's a matter of just not having enough bodies in the community,” she said. “They’re short-staffed.”

She said some are so short-staffed that they will not be able to attend the job fair, which would have defeated the point of the job fair.

But Weinmeier still encourages them to register.

“We have booths set up for the businesses that are not able to actually attend our job fair, and we will represent them,” said Weinmeier. This involves providing information to job seekers from those businesses, as well as gathering resumes from prospects.

Can businesses still sign up?

Weinmeier encourages businesses to sign up as soon as possible to ensure enough space to accommodate everyone.

To register go the chamber website at stpaulchamber.ca for the link.
