LAC LA BICHE - Thanks to a recent change, Lac La Biche County crews are now providing maintenance along the downtown Main Street. The roadway is technically part of the province's highway network, linking Highways 881 and 36 at the intersection at Tags and Squirrely's — but a recent resolve to long-standing discussions over control of the roadway has given maintenance and planning permissions to the municipality.
Prior to the recent agreement, municipal crews could maintain the roadway, but only after permissions from Alberta Transportation.
Municipal officials say having ability to maintain and guide development of the main community corridor will benefit residents, visitors and loca economic development by reducing wait times for development permits, needed upgrades and regular maintenance like snow clearing.
