LAKELAND – Two Lakeland-based residents are heading to Ayacucho, Peru for a mission trip that will involve the delivering and distributing of solar-powered Galcom radios.

The trip is part of Galcom International’s effort of distributing “durable technical equipment for communicating the Gospel worldwide,” such as solar-powered radios and audio players, according to Galcom’s website.

These radios and equipment are connected to Christian radio stations.

Jessie Williams and Faye Marie Farris are with the Two Hills Fellowship Chapel. They will be joining a team from Galcom International for the mission trip. Williams says that when Farris heard about the mission on a Christian station, they decided to take part.

The plan is to distribute the radios and audio bibles to the Quechua people of Ayacucho, Peru.

The mission will also run eyeglass clinics for those in need.

Asked what inspired Williams to go on the trip, she says, “Because I really love people.”

“It does not matter to me what colour or race... God created everyone, and I really want to share the love of God with people out there,” says Williams.

The trip involves climbing an approximately 11,000 feet elevation of the Andean Mountain Ranges to reach the Quechua people, but Williams says they do not find the mountains daunting.

“If God can keep me here... why can he not keep me there?”

Williams and Farris will also use some of their own money for the trip. They will leave the country on July 31 for Peru and expect to be back in Canada on Aug. 9.

Williams is excited for the trip and feels it will go quickly with how busy they plan to be.
