ST. PAUL – The Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Paul has a new bishop, following a ceremony steeped in tradition at the St. Paul Cathedral on Dec. 12.
In September, His Holiness Pope Francis accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend Paul Terrio as bishop of St. Paul and appointed Msgr. Gary Anthony Franken to the position.
On Monday, Franken was ordained as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Saint Paul.
The Episcopal Ordination of Franken was consecrated by Richard Smith, the Archbishop of Edmonton, with Michael Miller, the Archbishop of Vancouver, and Paul Terrio, Bishop-Emeritus of St. Paul as co-consecrators.
Franken was the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vancouver before his ordination as the new bishop.
The new bishop was born in Vancouver, BC., in 1962 and was ordained as a priest in Vancouver in 1989, according to an online database of bishops and diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
