IRON RIVER – In September, a new principal will be welcoming students at Iron River School.
Iron River teacher, Dustin Blake has been appointed to the role of principal at Iron River School for the 2022-23 school year by Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS).
Blake first began his career with NLPS as a student-teacher at Iron River School.
After graduating from the University of Alberta with a combined Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Physical Education degree, he worked as a Grade 1 teacher at Duclos School before taking on the role of Phys. Ed teacher at H.E. Bourgoin Middle School in Bonnyville.
“Throughout his time with NLPS, Dustin has shown a commitment to engaging students and building strong relationships with families and the community,” said NLPS Superintendent Rick Cusson.
“He is focused on providing students with opportunities to excel both academically as well as through extracurricular activities and connecting with all stakeholders to enhance the opportunities available to students.”
In 2017, Blake made his way back to Iron River School, where he has taught Grade 5 to 8 math, science and physical education ever since.
“This entire school community means so much to me, and I will do my best to make sure that it continues to be an amazing place for students to reach their greatest potential,” said Blake.
“I am so excited and blessed to be the new principal at Iron River School.”
Blake also coaches cross-country running, mountain biking, volleyball, basketball and track and field. He serves as president of the Lakeland Schools Athletic Association.

She will join Principal Chan Cusson and Assistant Principal Twila Moore as the administration team for Cold Lake Middle School.
“I am looking forward to meeting all of the students, families, and staff at Cold Lake Middle School and working with them to create amazing opportunities for our students to learn, grow and succeed,” Draycott said.
