Number of active cases down, fewer tests completed over holidays

LAKELAND - Across the province, fewer cases of COVID-19 have been reported over the holiday season, but fewer tests were also completed.

On Dec. 24, 1,200 new cases were reported, and on Dec. 25 900 cases of the virus were confirmed. Small increases in hospital and ICU admissions were also noted over the two days.

On Dec. 24, 17,800 tests were completed, and 14,200 tests were completed on Dec. 25. The numbers were delivered via the Chief Medical Officer of Health's social media account for both days, and are noted as being estimates.

Numbers on the province's case map have not been updated since Dec. 22.

According to the map on Monday morning, there were 63 active cases of COVID-19 in the St. Paul region, 52 cases in the MD of Bonnyville region, and 49 active cases in the Cold Lake region.

Lac La Biche was reporting 23 active cases, according to the map. The Smoky Lake region, which touches both St. Paul and Lac La Biche regions, was reporting 39 active cases, according to the map.
