One dead in Thanksgiving night crash on Hwy 63 near Grassland

RCMP say one person is dead following a crash on Highway 63 and Range Road 297 between Donatville and Grassland

One person is dead after RCMP say the SUV they were driving swerved to avoid a deer on Highway 63 near Grassland on Sunday night and crashed into an approaching semi truck. 

Boyle and Athabasca RCMP say the crash happened 10 kilometres west of Grassland at about 10:30 pm on Sunday night.

The driver and lone occupant of the southbound SUV, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the northbound semi suffered non-life-threatening physical injuries.  There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

RCMP have not released the gender, age or home community of the SUV driver.

The crash closed the highway for several hours, with the stretch of roadway re-opening Monday morning at 8 am
