MALLAIG – The St. Paul RCMP is hosting a charity hockey tournament at the Mallaig Arena on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Members of the RCMP will face off against the members of the Mallaig Fire Department and Mallaig School during the afternoon event.
Dennis Silliker, detachment commander with the St. Paul RCMP is inviting the public to attend.
“We’re partnering with the Mallaig Fire Department and the [École] Mallaig School,” to raise money for the St. Paul Food Bank and Mallaig’s Student Compassion Fund, explained Silliker.
The Student Compassion Fund assists students who require access to clothing, lunches, school supplies, and other necessities, explained Silliker.
“We would love to have community support at the event,” he said.
As there will also be going to be a lot of RCMP members and fire department members present during the charity game, the event will serve as a social function to connect members of the community, according to Silliker.
“It’s neat to note that these members [will be there] on their own time – during their regular time off,” he said. “There’s this desire in our detachment to serve the community, and the [tournament] is just a unique way [where] they can use their skills and their passions for a great cause.”
