Wood Buffalo RCMP arrest one in connection to 'laced' street narcotics

Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested a man with Janvier connetions in relation to an incident from a week ago that they say saw three people injured after coming into contact with an unknown narcotic.

Wood Buffalo RCMP  News Release — 

Janvier, Alta – Wood Buffalo RCMP continue their investigation into the potentially laced street level drugs. As a result of these police investigations, Jesse Tyler Morice was arrested on May 16, 2020. Police located and seized suspected methamphetamines, as well as almost four thousand ($4000) in Canadian currency subsequent to his arrest.

On May 17, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section with the assistance of police officers from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), Wood Buffalo Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and General Duty, executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence and in a vehicle on that property in Janvier. Further evidence to support drug trafficking, including drug paraphernalia were located during the search, as well as ammunition and pellet guns which were seized by police. 

Jesse Tyler Morice, 31-year old male of Edmonton and Janvier, has been charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, careless storage of ammunition, and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Jesse Morice appeared in an in custody hearing and has been released. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 26, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., at the Provincial Court office in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigation is ongoing.

Alert of 'laced' drugs continues

Police would like to remind local residents of the possibility that street level drugs in our region may be unknowingly laced with drugs from the opioid family, such as fentanyl, carfentanil, or methamphetamines.
