ST. LINA - Under a bright and sunny sky paired with delightfully warm weather, the St. Lina 4-H Beef Club held its Achievement Day on June 3. The event was an opportunity for the members, aged 10 to 16 years, to show off the work they put into raising and training their steers for the past year.
Show-judge Rylee Noble, who hails from the Lloydminster area, presented himself throughout the afternoon event with kindness, patience, and empathy towards the youth. He wasn’t there to simply be a judge, but he took this opportunity to carefully and thoughtfully explain to the Junior members what he was looking for in a prize animal.
He observed their ability to calm their animal, lead it with a halter, and the grooming and clipping techniques they’d used for show-day, while sharing his own tips and tricks to set them up for future success. It was an educational experience for not only the members, but also for the members of the community in attendance.
Kudos to all of the St. Lina 4-H Beef Club members for participating in this event with ease and grace. Their patience was tested in the heat where at times they wrestled to keep their composure in leading their steers. One has to commend the youth for their courage and resilience in working with these large animals after having their foot stepped on, or getting bunted or crowded against the steel pen.

Although there were only six members in the club that has been in operation since 1937, it was definitely a worthwhile and entertaining show to attend. Many thanks were given to the sponsors, parents, volunteers, and organizers who make events such as these possible to help shape youth into responsible, hard-working adults.
