ST. PAUL - It was a beautiful day at the St. Paul Fish and Game Association's (SPFGA) gun range on June 11. The organization held a .22 Target Shoot, bringing enthusiasts together to compete in a variety of categories.
A total of 18 competitors - seven in the junior category and 11 in the senior category - took part. The youngest competitor was just eight years old.
Entrants tested their marksmanship skills with five different targets for a possible 300 points, shooting in the sitting position self-supported. The junior target distance was 25 yards and the senior target distance 50 yards.
There was also a jackpot event to test marksmanship, challenging competitors to shoot 10 shots at 4" plates, 75 yards away. SPFGA started the jackpot at $50 for the juniors and $50 in the senior categories. Those who wished to enter for $10 a person had the chance to win all the proceeds.
The calibre of the shooters that attended the event were second to none, which made for some very competitive shooting in all classes, according to organizers. Warehouse Sports sponsored the event, which included many prizes that were distributed throughout the day.
SPFGA also offered thanks to every participant who came out to compete and support the event.
"Your presence helped to make this event a great success and your enthusiasm and positive spirit helped make it a fun day. You can look forward to future target shoots at the gun range," said Mitchell Paquette, a member and organizer with SPFGA.
