LAC LA BICHE – A motor vehicle collision on Highway 55 near Lac La Biche on Thursday evening, claimed the lives of three people and left a fourth person with serious life-threatening injuries.

At around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 23, Lac La Biche RCMP responded "to a crash notification from a cellphone" on Highway 55, between Range Road 161 and Range Road 162 in Lac La Biche County, according to a Jan. 24 Alberta RCMP press release.

On scene, RCMP discovered a head-on collision between a Ford Escape and a white Ford Super Duty towing a travel trailer.

Lac La Biche RCMP worked with the assistance of the Boyle RCMP, the Lac La Biche Fire Department, Lac La Biche Protective Services, AHS Emergency Medical Services, RCMP Collision Reconstruction Analyst, and STARS Ambulance.

The occupants of the Ford Escape, a male and a female from Plamondon, were declared deceased at the scene after life saving measures were unsuccessful.

"Life saving measures were also attempted on the two occupants from the Ford Super Duty and one female, a resident of High Prairie, Alta, was declared deceased on scene."

The jaws of life was used to extract a man from the truck and he was transported to the Lac La Biche Hospital before being transported by STARS to Edmonton with serious life-threatening injuries.

Around 4 a.m. on Jan. 24, Highway 55 was cleared for regular traffic.

Investigation is still ongoing with assistance of the Alberta RCMP's Collision Reconstruction Analyst.

"Lac La Biche RCMP request any assistance from drivers in the area who may have dash cam footage, or who witnessed the collision, to please contact the Lac La Biche RCMP," according to the Alberta RCMP.

No further updates from the RCMP are expected at this time.
