Lac La Biche Summer Days takes place July 29-31. There's lots of events for everyone:
Here's one —
There’s going to be some horsing around at theis year’s Summer Days events. The Canadian Trick Riding Association (CTRA) is hosting a trick riding competiton at the Lac La Biche Agricultural Grounds over the weekend. What is a trick riding competition? Amber Miller, the event organizer and a trick rider herself, says it will involve a dozen female acrobats and riders of all ages in a horseback-riding and gymnastic stunt competition competing for a chance to win cash prizes.
The newest addition to the Summer Days lineup is not only going to be an entertaining and daring show for guests to enjoy, but for many who have never seen the performance in action it will be a showcase of athleticism with horses, said Miller.
“Trick riding is basically acrobats on horses. As the horses run their pattern around the arena they are judged on speed as well as technical difficulty of the trick so they want the horses to be going fast and they perform stunts on top of them. The tricky part is getting in and out of the stunts smoothly, safely and quickly.”
Saturday afternoon
The trick riders will be performing on Saturday July 30 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.., on the Ag Grounds. It’s fast-paced excitement, says Miller.
“These girls are competing to win prize money and try their best while showcasing what they’ve worked so hard on. It’s about girls, fast horses, our love for animals and tricks.”
