Truck crashes into Bonnyville home overnight

Early Wednesday morning, Bonnyville residents along 43rd Ave woke to a loud bang, resulting from a suspected white truck that collided with a parked vehicle and a house. RCMP continue to investigate.

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville resident Geoffrey Palacol was at home sleeping when a loud bang and the sound of vehicle noises woke him suddenly at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Palacol tells LakelandToday that following the bang he raced to look out his living room window just in time to see a white truck speeding across his neighbour’s yards between a line of trees and houses towards the street corner.

The driver of the truck had first struck an SUV parked along 43rd Ave before veering in between trees and colliding with Palacol’s front stoop.

All that was left following the vehicle’s collision with the house was tire marks, a pool of diesel fuel and pieces of truck parts that had been broken off during the crash.

“It is a tragic thing what happened this morning,” said Palacol, adding that thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.

Neighbours more than a block away have reported waking to the sound of the crash and hearing a revving engine.

After RCMP concluded their preliminary investigation and cleared the scene, Palacol’s neighbour helped cut down a damaged tree that was leaning over the road.

Investigation ongoing

Bonnyville RCMP did not provide a comment if any suspect(s) had been apprehended in relation to the incident or if the suspect vehicle had been located.

Police did indicate that the investigation remains ongoing.

LakelandToday will provide updates as they are made available into the investigation.
