TWO HILLS – The Two Hills Fire Department has helped five dogs find new homes after their previous owner, John Cooper, passed away.

Two Hills Fire Chief Marjorie Skoropadyk, who helped coordinate the adoption efforts, said there were eight dogs in total. Six are pups and the two adult dogs are the parents.

The mother dog and four of the six pups have been adopted before the adoption deadline on Jan. 17. The father dog and remainder of the pups were sent to an animal shelter in Lloydminster.

Skoropadyk thanked all individuals who have helped to feed the pups while waiting for adoption, including the fire department's Lieutenant Patrick Bretz, who has been "buying a lot of food" for the pups, as well as area residents Brad and Sally Dary.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to John’s friend Harry Comeau for helping so much this last week with taking care of the pups," she said.

She also thanked the families who adopted the pups.

"Five families came from Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Lloydminster, and New Sarepta to pick up their new fur baby," she said. "I have heard from the new owners [that] the pups and momma have all adjusted well and are getting spoiled and loved."
