LAC LA BICHE - It was a one-point margin for most of the way in the U13 Tier 3 championship game at the Bold Center on Sunday afternoon, leading to a 7-6 win for the Irvine Bulldogs over the High Prairie Wheat Kings.
It was the second time in the four-day provincial championships that the two teams had met. The Bulldogs won both matches, starting with the opening game of the championships last Thursday night. That game ended in an 8-5 win for the Bulldogs.
The Irvine players will be taking their championship banner south to the Medicine Hat area after the 15-game championship weekend saw them finish with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Wheat Kings ended the championships with a silver finish and a record of three wins and two loses ... both losses coming from the Bulldogs.
Although the final game between the two teams was more evenly-paced, the Wheat Kings just couldn't take the lead in the game, that saw the Bulldogs maintain a one goal difference at the end of each period — 3-2 after one, 5-4 after two and 7-6 in the third.
The weekend of provincial hockey action was hosted by the U13 Lac La Biche Clippers who didn't make it through the round-robin games leading to Sunday's semifinals and finals.
