The Lac La Biche Clippers U11-1 team finished out January by dropping a 10-4 decision to the visiting Smoky Lake Stars Green.

LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Clippers U11-1 team finished out January by dropping a 10-4 decision to the visiting Smoky Lake Stars Green. The game took place on Jan. 31 at Lac La Biche’s Bold Centre.

Smoky Lake dominated the first period, with Duke Veno scoring his team’s first goal two minutes into the game. Throughout the first period, Bret Romaniuk acquired two goals while Ryder Losier had one.

The Stars Green went into second period with a commanding 4-0 lead, which soon increased by one point when Romaniuk scored his third goal of the evening and the team’s fifth.

The Clippers began battling back, and Jessiah Reid scored two back-to-back goals to make the score 5-2. However, these gains were quickly overtaken by Romaniuk, who went on to score two more goals.

Smoky Lake’s Bently Chizawsky acquired his team’s eighth goal while Reid helped his teammate Marcus Thom Bursey get another point for Lac La Biche in the dying seconds of the second period.

By the time the third period arrived, the Smoky Lake Stars Green had gained a strong upper hand, one that would increase until they finished out the night with their 10-4 victory.

While Reid was able to score Lac La Biche’s fourth and final goal of the contest, Veno and Romaniuk each got one more point.

The U11-1 Clippers currently hold fourth spot in their five-team North Eastern Alberta Hockey League (NEAHL) West Division.

The Clippers are on the ice again on Feb. 15, when the team travels to Slave Lake to take on the Slave Lake Thunder. The Clippers will be in Westlock for a game the following day.
