BONNYVILLE - Before the regular season has even started, Rhinos volleyball teams are already seeing success.
Over the weekend of Jan. 15, two of the club's teams made it to the gold medal final during exhibition tournaments.
Playing in Saskatoon, the Rhinos 16U Black won gold during an inter-provincial tournament. Playing three sets against the Swift Current Sun Dogs, the Rhinos took the first match winning 25-17, but fell behind by three points at the end of the second set losing 22-25. In the third set, the Rhinos came back to win 15-12 to take home gold.
The Rhinos 18U Black had a silver medal finish while playing a pre-season tournament in Spruce Grove. The closely matched game saw the Rhinos' opponents, the Fog Elite, edge ahead by a narrow margin in the final. The Rhinos missed the first set 22-25 and the second 25-27.
The regular season for club volleyball begins over the Feb. 5 weekend.
This season, the Rhinos volleyball teams are made of athletes from across the Lakeland, including Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Elk Point, Lac La Biche, St. Paul, Two Hills and Vermilion.
