Special Olympics athletes from the Lakeland compete at Winter Games

Several athletes from the Lakeland region took part in this year's Special Olympics Winter Games, last month.

LAKELAND - Athletes from across the Lakeland travelled to Strathcona County over the last weekend of February to take part in this year's Special Olympics Winter Games - and many of them brought home medals.

A St. Paul bowling team was among those who travelled Sherwood Park for the Games. As a group, the team took home silver medals, while Michael May received gold in his division for men’s singles. Cyndal Christensen and Cheryl Cartier both took bronze in their divisions for ladies' singles. 

Also taking part in the Games were athletes from Special Olympics Lakeland, which includes athletes from the Bonnyville-Cold Lake area.

Also taking part in bowling, Leo Gagne received gold medal in Division 4 of five-pin bowling men’s singles.

Kelsey Jeannotte received a gold medal in Division 7 of five-pin bowling women’s singles. And Kameron Churko received a bronze medal in Division 12 of five-pin bowling men’s singles.

In the team event, Lakeland placed fourth in Division 4 of five-pin bowling.
