Voyageurs drop home games to TKU Eagles

Voyageur soccer squads show potential, but have no wins as ACAC season winds down

LAC LA BICHE - The Kings University Eagles soccer teams were in Lac La Biche on Saturday to battle Portage College.

The Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference match ups had Portage's men's and women's teams looking for their first wins of the season.

Coming into their game, the Portage women had scored just two goals in nine games of the ACAC league. They didn't manage to increase that number, getting blanked 6-0 by the Eagles. The win was the fourth of the season for the TKU team, keeping them in fourth place of the seven team northern conference of the women's ACAC soccer league. The Voyageurs are in last place in the conference standings.

The Voyageurs men's squad have also been battling with a win-less soccer season, and it continued on Saturday, as they lost by a narrow 2-0 margin. While the loss keeps the Voyageurs at the bottom of the northern conference, there were some highlights in the game played on the Bold Center Sports fields, including a penalty shot save by Voyageurs netminder Mukire Kiroro.  The win for the Eagles keeps them in fourth place of the ACAC northern conference with a record of 4 wins, three losses and two ties.

The Voyageurs men's and women's teams have just three more games left in the season, two on the road and their final home games Saturday, Oct. 22 against Concordia University Thunder.

League playoffs begin the following week, with only the top four teams in the north and south conferences making the cut.
