Out with the old and in with the new, as the old saying goes.
For many people, the end of a year and the outlook of a new one brings hope for the future, including new opportunities and the possibility that things are going to get better.
As 2024 comes to a close, I look back over the past year. It was a year that brought many interesting global and national events, including the re-election of Donald Trump and the Florida Panthers securing a victory over our Edmonton Oilers.
I wonder what 2025 has in store for us all.
Will the global economy show signs of recovering and bringing forth prosperity once again? Or will inflation, skyrocketing prices, and stagnating wages continue to be the norm? Will countries find a way to resolve their issues peacefully? Or will we find ourselves inching ever closer to war?
How will governments at all levels deal with burgeoning deficits and debt?
Will the world see further advances in medicine and technology, artificial intelligence, as well as an economy that is environmentally-sustainable?
From where things stand right now, there are no definitive answers to these questions, although they are interesting topics of debate.
The 16th century philosopher and astrologer Nostradamus purportedly predicted events that have already taken place during the 2020s and are slated to happen by the end of the decade, including the Russia-Ukraine war.
A quick online search will reveal modern-day mystics and astrologers who claim to predict some scarily believable and very outrageous events for the upcoming year.
While there is some credibility to what these ‘experts’ are saying, many are merely speculating as to what could possibly take place in the future. Therefore, they are not reliable sources of information.
Regardless of what transpires in 2025 - and in the years to follow – most of will continue to get up and go to work every morning to make money to pay our bills. We will enjoy time with family and friends and continue to wonder just where everything is headed.
As far as opportunities are concerned, it is up to us to chart our own course in life, and if we want to see change, we can start by setting some New Years resolutions for 2025.
