MONTREAL — Quebec’s police watchdog is investigating two more deaths linked to police interventions, bringing the province's number of police-involved deaths on the weekend to three.

One of the deaths occurred Sunday morning, when a person lost consciousness after a physical altercation with Montreal police officers.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes’ preliminary summary says officers responded to a 911 call about a person in crisis behind a residence.

It says the officers restrained the person, but the person then lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, where they were declared dead.

The watchdog has opened a separate investigation in Quebec City after another person lost consciousness and died in detention Sunday.

Quebec City police officers made an arrest shortly after 5 p.m. after being called about a person in a business who was in crisis and refused to leave.

The two deaths follow the fatal shooting on Saturday of a person in an apartment building by Montreal police responding to a 911 call about someone with a gun.
