The County of St. Paul downgraded the total fire ban to a fire advisory on Tuesday. The advisory applies to all rural residences, hamlets, municipal parks and recreation areas within the County.

The advisory permits small recreation fires, such as contained fires in pits for cooking as well as charcoal and gas barbecues.

The County will not issue any fire permits until the advisory is lifted.

A fire advisory also continues in the County of Two Hills, with only contained fires in pits allowed.

The Town and MD of Bonnyville continued a total fire ban due to a lack of precipitation.

“The fire conditions continue to be extreme in the region and are being worsened by the lack of significant rainfall this spring,” said regional fire chief Brian McEvoy in a press release issued June 3.

The release calls for caution when discarding smoking materials or using any spark-producing tool in welding or grinding.

The fire hazard will remain until the MD area receives 25 mm to 50 mm of rain.
