ST. PAUL - RCMP in St. Paul say they have received several complaints of fraudulent activity and attempted frauds lately.
"Most of these are occurring over the phone or email, with scammers impersonating business representatives and attempting to get personal information or money from victims," according to information from Kellieka Formanek, public information officer with St. Paul RCMP.
RCMP are reminding the public to be careful when answering phone calls.
Some "red flags" people should watch for include the caller asking for payment in gift cards and making aggressive demands. Scammers may also request the victim avoid talking to others or their bank about the situation.
"If you receive an email or phone call that you think may be a scam, hang up or do not respond," according to RCMP. "Do not ever release any personal or banking information. If someone is asking you to purchase a large amount of gift cards, do not buy them or send the codes to anyone."
