ST. PAUL – Three outdoor rinks are now available for the public, and the Town of St. Paul will continue to flood additional rinks as the temperature gets colder and snow finally arrives, according to Town administration.
CAO Steven Jeffery says the three outdoor rinks available for use are at Lagasse Park, Crescent Park, and Lions Park. The rinks are funded, cleaned, and flooded by the Town.
"We clean them, then we flood them, and wait until they're to a standard where they're not requiring any more flooding and we just maintain them," he said, but they do flood the rinks as they get used, and the ice gets nicked up.
Jeffery reminds the public to be mindful of others who use the rinks. "Be mindful of the differences in ages or skating abilities that use the rinks," he says, explaining that public, outdoor, and open spaces like the rinks are meant for everyone who has a pair of skates - no matter their skill level.
"You can have kids out there who are quite skilled and aggressive in skating abilities and shooting pucks, but you can also have first-time skaters, families, or people who are just wanting to take in the Canadian tradition of skating in the wintertime."
He added, "Enjoy the space together."
