ST. PAUL – On Jan. 10, 16 youth, divided into four teams, competed at a Master Chef themed cooking competition at St. Paul Regional High School. The event was hosted by the St. Paul Youth Council (SPYC).
Ryan Noel, chair for SPYC, said the event was meant to engage youth and showcase their culinary skills.
"We wanted to create a way to get the community involved through a nice, friendly competition," said Noel. He added it was all about creating "some good food and just have a good time."
The event is just one of the many initiatives planned by the youth council for the year ahead, said Faithe Hunter, youth coordinator with the St. Paul Regional Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) – the organization that oversees the SPYC.
"We have most of our year planned [and] we've got something for every month already," she said. There will be a paint night in February, and SPYC's fifth annual St. Patrick's Day party in March, for example.
