STARS visits St. Paul three times in one week

STARS air ambulance visited St. Therese Healthcare Centre three times last week in unrelated incidences.

STARS responded after a truck struck a 21-year-old female pedestrian at 44 Street and 50 Avenue on Friday afternoon. Local fire, RCMP and emergency workers responded to the scene and transported the person to the hospital. The driver of the truck was headed southbound on 44 Street and turned east onto 50 Avenue while the pedestrian crossed 50 Avenue. The pedestrian is in stable condition. Neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors and the matter is still under investigtaion, according to an RCMP press release.

The STARS helicopter received another request for assistance on Wednesday for a medical based emergency.

STARS also received a call at 7:17 a.m. on Sept. 3 and landed around 8:19 a.m. to assist with the transfer of a patient from the hospital to Edmonton for a medical based emergency, confirmed STARS spokesman Cam Heke.

STARS flew to St. Paul 25 times last year, 20 times in 2009 and 25 in 2008. Last year, STARS responded to 1,453 missions in total and 21,000 since it began in 1985.
