Thanksgiving fun run will support St. Paul food bank

The community is invited to lace up their running shoes for a good cause as the community gears up for its first-ever 5 km Turkey Trot fundraising event on Oct. 12.

ST. PAUL – The community is invited to lace up their running shoes for a good cause as the community gears up for its first-ever 5 km Turkey Trot fundraising event on Oct. 12.

The run will start at the Clancy Richard Arena parking lot at 9:30 a.m. The route will be announced closer to the date of the event.

Taylor Charbonneau and Morgan Gerlinsky are organizing the event. The pair say they have been running a lot lately, participating in the Terry Fox Run and forming a team to compete at the Iron Horse Ultra that was held in St. Paul Oct. 5 and 6.

Wanting to share their hobby with others, they decided to organize their own run – while also benefiting a local non-profit.

“We want it to be relaxed,” says Charbonneau, adding the event will offer a relaxed and fun atmosphere for people of all fitness levels to come together, get active, while also giving back to those in need.

Gerlinsky agrees, adding that in line with the spirit of Thanksgiving, the event will aim to collect donations for the St. Paul & District food bank. “People can come with non-perishable goods,” or monetary donations during the event, says Gerlinsky.

Thanksgiving is a time when many people reflect on what they’re thankful for, according to Charbonneau and Gerlinsky. And the event is an opportunity to do just that by promoting health and charity, while also bringing the community together.
