St. Paul will offer ultrasound services in its St. Therese Health Centre now that Alberta Health Services’ year-long search for a technologist has come to an end.
“We have been continuously recruiting, (but) it is a difficult to recruit position,” said Stephanie Johnston, communications advisor with AHS, noting that it can be hard to hire positions in rural areas. Over the past year, patients have been traveling to places such as Edmonton or Bonnyville for ultrasounds. But AHS has now hired an ultrasound technologist with nearly 20 years of experience to offer general ultrasound services, such as obstetrical, abdomen or pelvic ultrasounds, to patients in the local area.
Carol Ann MacNeil, who was formerly the manager of diagnostic imaging in the City of Iqaluit, started her position as St. Paul’s ultrasound technologist on Sept. 20, said Johnston.
