Update: Large police presence on scene east of St. Paul

RCMP

ST. PAUL -  Few details have emerged at this time regarding a heavy police presence in a rural area east of St. Paul including whether or not the situation has been resolved. However, police activity in the area was still ongoing as of 8 p.m.

RCMP public information officer Cpl. Gina Slaney, responding directly to questions from LakelandTODAY.ca at 8:30 p.m., indicated a containment area had been set up around a rural residence while an arrest warrant was being enacted.

"This came out at 4:41 p.m. that members had located a subject who was wanted on charges and they had him contained in the residence and they were waiting for a warrant to enter the house to arrest him."

Slaney said she could not confirm at this time if the suspect has been arrested as the file had not yet been updated. She indicated more information would likely be forthcoming tomorrow, Oct. 23. However, in response to a question as to whether the suspect was armed as was initially reported, she responded, "It does not say that he was armed."

LakelandTODAY.ca first reported the police activity in the area of TWP Rd. 583 and RR 81, east of St. Paul and north of Hwy. 29 in the Dog Rump Creek area late this afternoon. RCMP on scene indicated to LakelandTODAY.ca that a suspect was armed and barricaded inside a home and multiple RCMP units had responded. The road leading into the area has been blocked off with traffic being rerouted.

Updates to this story will be provided as available.
