ST. PAUL – The community has until Aug. 14 to check out the free art exhibit of a young St. Paul-based artist at the St. Paul and District Arts Foundation.

"I've always liked nature. I like to go hiking with my aunt sometimes, and I love going to mountains and stuff," says Naja VanBrabant, as she gestures to some of her art, indicating subjects like flowers, fruit, or birds. "I find [nature] fascinating," she says, and art is one medium for her to express that fascination.

Many of her art has a realistic look when seen from afar, but VanBrabant says she only uses colour pencils.

She has been doing art since she was a child. "It's always been a part of my life. I think I started around four years old," she says, and she had the opportunity to explore more of her passion during the pandemic. "I was inside all the time, so I had so much time to do this," says the artist, explaining many of the pieces at the exhibit were created during the pandemic.

She invites the community to come and check out her work. This is VanBrabant's first exhibit and she says she is grateful for the opportunity. "It's nice to showcase my art. I've never really been able to do that," she says and hopes she can do more of them in the future.
