BONNYVILLE – The Aurora Visual Arts Association (AVAA) hosted a Juried Art show to showcase local artists and received such a positive response that the AVAA plans to make the event an annual occurrence.

“We had so much positive feedback, it was awesome. When one of the judges walked in, he said ‘Now this is a show,’,” said event organizer Marilyn Brockhoff.

The two-day event happened from Feb. 22 and 23 at the Bonnyville Rodeo Grounds, and featured Judges Hurman Poulin from St. Paul and Kathy Gusnowski from Elk Point.

Brockhoff said she had feedback from the judges that the setup of the show was very inviting, and attendees enjoyed the opportunity to see the work artists in their community had created.

Brockhoff said the AVAA has hosted many events in the past, but this one has been its finest. The art show was a great way for artists to mingle and be inspired.

“Our club is such a great club. I organized the show, but I could not have done it without the club. We’re just one big family and we try and support and help each other,” said Brockhoff.

Brockhoff said the AVAA is always seeking new members who have a love of art, and being involved with the club is a great way to meet like-minded people.

“Art is something everybody can appreciate, and an art show is a wonderful way to see the art that’s available in our community. For me, to be able to show my work builds confidence too, and that’s so important,” said Brockhoff.

The winner for the Judges choice was Carol Kropinski, and the winner of the People’s choice went to Brockhoff.
