Bonnyville Youth caught in the act of good behaviour can now receive a Positive Ticket from Peace Officers which includes a voucher for a free ice cream.

BONNYVILLE - Peace officers on patrol in the Bonnyville area will be handing out positive tickets when they witness youth doing something good in the community.

Both the Town of Bonnyville and MD of Bonnyville are involved in efforts to reward youth for good behaviour.

Peace Officer Wanda Tomm with the Town of Bonnyville will be handing out deserving tickets through the summer months.

“If you see her, wave, stop and say hi, tell her about what fun things you're up to this summer or ask her some questions if you like. She will be delighted to speak to you all,” according to information from the Town of Bonnyville.

Tomm says she has also been handing out positivity tickets, which are more geared towards adults doing great things in the community, for instance if someone has taken the time to clean up their front yard and walkway.

Tomm says this summer she really wants to get on board with issuing positive tickets to youth. So, she got gift certificates from local ice cream businesses to reward youth with.

Youth caught being good will get a little ticket written up with all the information about their good behaviour.

“It’s nice to make those connections with them, especially if they're a little leery and they’re maybe not too sure about the uniform, or if that is an approachable person. You just want them to be comfortable... In case they ever need you, you want them to trust you.”

The MD of Bonnyville is also involved in the efforts and will be running a similar program.

“Kids caught in the act of doing something positive will get a sweet treat in return – a certificate for a free scoop of ice cream from the MD’s Visitor Information Centre in the Shaw House at Vezeau Beach on Moose Lake,” according to information from the MD of Bonnyville.
