BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville RCMP is investigating after receiving a complaint from a resident who was assaulted.

On April 14 around 3:20 p.m., a property owner reported that he approached an unknown male on a quad who was on his property in the Silver Birch area. The suspect punched the complainant on the nose and drove away, almost striking the landowner again as he left.

The suspect is described as an indigenous male with no teeth in the front. He was driving a camouflage CAN-AM quad that appeared to have front-end damage.

“This investigation is ongoing, and the Bonnyville RCMP are seeking any information pertaining to the identity of the suspect,” Sgt. Kim Hillier told the Nouvelle.

Suspect steals cigarettes from 7-Eleven

Employees from the 7-Eleven reported a male in his 20’s wearing a tan hoody and jeans stole cigarettes.

A member had been in contact with someone matching that description earlier on April 13 and positively identified him after reviewing the security footage.

Intoxicated female ends up in a ditch

An Edmonton female with a previously suspended license received a further 90 days on her sentence.

“We received a report of an intoxicated female in the middle of the highway with her vehicle in the ditch,” Hillier noted. “Upon arrival, the members found the female suspect was attempting to drive the vehicle out of the ditch."

When the suspect was arrested, she provided a sample that was double the legal limit.

The 35-year-old was released on documents to appear in Bonnyville court July 21.

Regent Electric broke into

The Regent Electric yard, located on 49 Ave., had approximately 80-metres of copper wire stolen.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 9.

Resident the victim of a break-in

A complainant reported that his garage, located on 45 St. near 41 Ave. in Bonnyville, was broken into on April 16.

“Multiple items were stolen, and to assist in the investigation, the complainant had security cameras in place, which has led to possibly identifying the suspects,” explained Hillier.

She added, “RCMP are requesting anyone with any information concerning this investigation please contact the Bonnyville RCMP.”

Scammers are still at it

After receiving a number of calls regarding online scams, the Bonnyville RCMP is reminding residents to be wary of online messages.

The number of CRA scams have declined, but residents have been “threatened that photos of them will be released if they don’t pay the scammer,” Hillier stated.

“Everyone should be aware and protect their personal information, and don’t ever send money to someone you don’t know unless you can afford to lose that cash forever,” she continued.
