BONNYVILLE – The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) released a fire advisory for the MD of Bonnyville, Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, the Summer Village of Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon on April 15.
The fire advisory prohibits any burning without a permit, except for campfires, allowing people to enjoy the outdoors.
“We expect this fire advisory to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in Alberta, while allowing Albertans to enjoy outdoor activities as much as possible,” stated the BRFA.
The fire advisory is effective as of Tuesday, and all existing fire permits remain valid.
“All existing fire permits remain valid. No new fire permits will be issued for non-essential heavy fuel burning (windrows, machine-piled brush piles etc.). All other fire permit requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis,” stated the BRFA.
The BRFA reminded residents that previous burning sites should be checked to make sure they are extinguished, and that caution should be exercised during windy conditions.
Fires that are permitted include safe wood campfires on private and public land, including backyard fire pits, charcoal briquette barbecues, propane or natural gas-powered appliances, open flame oil devices, catalytic or infrared style heaters, and indoor wood fires.
Fireworks, exploding targets, and any burning without a valid fire permit are prohibited, except for campfires.
Anyone seeking further information is encouraged to contact the BRFA and monitor Alberta Fire Bans for updates.
