Canada Day bash set for Bonnyville

The Town of Bonnyville has a full day of festivities planned to celebrate Canada Day on July 1.

BONNYVILLE – The Town of Bonnyville has a full day of festivities planned to celebrate Canada Day on July 1.

A pancake breakfast will take place in the morning, followed by opening ceremonies, a parade, and an evening party and rock night at Little Leap Park. Fireworks will be held at dusk.

Organizer Doreen Kushnir believes it’s important to celebrate the national holiday.

“It brings everybody together. We can all celebrate that we’re living in a great country.”

Canadian ‘80s rock band Honeymoon Suite is headlining the evening event, with a performance at Little Leap Park.

“We have wonderful entertainment that night. We have the farmers’ market, bouncy castles... then we have Kehewin dancers coming, Stephanie Harpe, and then Honeymoon Suite. It will be great.”

Kushnir says, “It’s always a big family event.”

There will be teen entertainment at 8 p.m., along with ample fun for kids and adults.

Schedule for the day

After the pancake breakfast, which takes place in the Sobey’s parking lot from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the fun will move to the museum where there will be opening ceremonies taking place at 1 p.m.

Kushnir says there will also be a fly-by at 11 a.m. from the Cold Lake air base.

The annual Canada Day parade will then take place on main street at 3 p.m., before things kick off at 5 p.m. for the Party in the Park, making it a packed day full of events to enjoy.

Food trucks will be selling their tasty fare at the Party in the Park.

Kushnir expressed her admiration for Bonnyville’s commitment to community involvement, saying, “Bonnyville is great for community - lots of volunteers and people sticking together. It's really awesome.”
