CF-18 Hornet goes down near Cold Lake

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday a CF-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed in a field around 13 km northwest of 4 Wing at CFB Cold Lake. The pilot from 409 Tactical Squadron successfully ejected from the aircraft.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday a CF-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed in a field around 13 km northwest of 4 Wing at CFB Cold Lake.

The pilot from 409 Tactical Squadron successfully ejected from the aircraft. The pilot, considered to be in good condition, received treatment at the hospital and is being released, according to 4 Wing public affairs.

Cold Lake Fire-Rescue and RCMP attended the scene.

The cause of the crash is unknown and the director of flight safety has begun an investigation.
