BONNYVILLE – The Town of Bonnyville is hosting its annual Canada Day event in July and has announced that they have booked Canadian Country Hall of Famer Charlie Major to help the community celebrate.
The free event will take place on July 1 at Little Leap Park and includes an evening fireworks, among other activities.
Major was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2019. He has won three JUNO awards, and seven CCMA awards.
According to Major’s website, “His lyrics champion the ‘Blue Collar Hero’ in a manner that embodies Springsteen and other roots rock legends, but it is in the country music format that Major finds his home.”
Doreen Kushnir, recreation assistant for the Town of Bonnyville, explained that they have an event committee for Canada Day, and they are very excited about booking such a big headliner.
“Last year, we booked Honeymoon Suit, and they were great. People had such a good time . . . This year we’ve got some great musicians lined up, and we’re bringing back all the fun kids’ games, the food vendors, and lots of entertainment.”
Kushnir said there will be other bands opening for Major, and sideshows including sword swallowing and fire eating.
“Canada Day is one of the big events in Bonnyville. The park just gets packed. [The event committee] has lots to do.”
