Four local charities each received $8,000 from the Dream Wheels Weekend that raised $32,000 the last weekend in August through an exotic car ride auction, admissions, and driver fees.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Bonnyville Health Foundation, Cold Lake Hearts for Health Care, and the Military Families Support Society split the earnings.

“We're very grateful to have had the chance to build such a unique event around these amazing vehicles and the CF-18 fighter jets we're privileged to have in our area,” said Sal Naim, Dream Wheels Weekend committee chairperson.

While most drivers got to test their speed limit on the tarmac at 4 Wing that weekend, a select few got to race a CF-18 Hornet, only to lose.

“We would especially like to thank 4 Wing and ZR Auto for their partnership in this one-of-a-kind show,” said Naim.

Naim said it's too early to tell if the committee will decide to go ahead with a second year.
