BONNYVILLE – A 27-year-old Cold Lake man is facing charges after police received a call about an alleged impaired driver east of Bonnyville on Oct. 2.

Just after 8 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a complaint with a witness saying a driver had “initially been passed out in the vehicle in the ditch, but when he knocked on the window to see if he was okay the driver took off down the road in an erratic fashion,” according to police.

The call came from a location east of Bonnyville on Highway 657, near Township Road 610.

RCMP members quickly located the vehicle and performed a sobriety test with the driver, who failed the test.

“A subsequent search of his vehicle turned up a controlled substance.”

Travis Carlson of Cold Lake was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He was released by a Justice of the Pace and his first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22.
