BONNVILLE – Following the recent opening of the Strathcona Performing Arts Centre in Bonnyville, Lakeland Live was created to offer locals a chance to get on stage and perform in front of an audience.
In the past, Bonnyville had opportunities for local artists to perform at the Lyle Victor Alberta theatre, which was demolished in 2020. The Clayton Bellamy Foundation of the Arts worked to build the new theatre, and re-establish a home for the performing arts in Bonnyville.
“You’ve heard of Bonnyville Live, maybe you’ve heard of Home Made Jam, maybe you’ve heard of the Bonnyville Opry – Lakeland Live is all of these combined – You can enjoy the best artists the Lakeland has to offer,” said Clayton Bellamy, president of the Clayton Bellamy Foundation of the Arts.
Lise Fielding, Vice President of the Clayton Bellamy Foundation of the Arts, explained that Lakeland Live will be a reoccurring event happening quarterly. Their first Lakeland Live event happened on March 29 in the new theatre.
“The first show went super well with approximately 200 people attending. We had all genres of music from country to rock and young to seasoned,” said Fielding.
Fielding explained that it’s particularly important to provide a space for youth to perform.
For those interested in performing, they must apply prior to the show, as it is not an open mic format.
“There are only so many spots per night and they do have to pre-qualify via a demo to our organizer Shane Larmand, a local musician,” said Fielding.
Performers can email Larmand at [email protected], or visit the Strathcona Performing Arts Centre website.
