RCMP issue shelter in place near Kehewin early Monday morning

Bonnyville RCMP have issued a shelter in place near Kehewin asking residents to stay indoors, lock their doors and stay away from windows.

UPDATE - Just before 10 a.m., RCMP advised that the shelter in place had been lifted.

KEHEWIN - Bonnyville RCMP have issued a shelter in place near Kehewin. A notice was sent out to media at just before 6 a.m. on Feb. 17.

"There is a heavy police presence on Township Road 592A, south of Highway 657 and east of Highway 41 (Buffalo Trail), for a police operation involving a suspect and a firearm," according to police.

"RCMP is asking residents in this area to stay inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows while officers respond. Please refrain from posting photos of responding officers on social media."

RCMP say they understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but they are working tirelessly to locate the suspect.
