COLD LAKE - 4 Wing Cold Lake MFRCS is set to host a special evening in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day.

The free event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the 4 Wing Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) on Sept. 27 and will feature a performance by Aysanabee, the first Indigenous artist to reach number one on the Canadian alt-rock chart and a two-time Juno Award winner, according to information from MFRCS.

According to information provided to Lakeland This Week, “4 Wing CFB Cold Lake is very proud of our efforts and results in improving our relationship with Cold Lake First Nations, Canoe Lake Cree First Nations, and a number of other local Indigenous communities. These types of events help foster the sense of community that is very important to 4 Wing CFB Cold Lake, and we enjoy our close relationships with the City and region, our Indigenous partners, and local industries.”

Lt. Samuel Deslauriers Public Affairs Officer, 4 Wing CFB Cold Lake added, “To honour the spirit and purpose of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation, the 4 Wing MFRCS is proud to invite the community to share in an evening of songs and stories by the Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Aysanabee. His songs and stories share the history of Canada’s great shame, and stem from his long conversations with his Grandfather Watin during the COVID pandemic.”

Before Aysanabee’s performance, Indigenous Elders from the community will take the stage to share their stories, providing a meaningful opportunity for attendees to reflect on the spirit of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation efforts.

To attend the event, participants are required to register online at 4Wingmfrcs.perfectmind.com.
