Cold Lake FCSS hosts community fun at Cowboy Town

On July 17, families from Cold Lake and surrounding areas gathered at Cowboy Town in Ardmore for a day filled with fun activities, hosted by Cold Lake and District FCSS.

ARDMORE - The event, named Cowboy Town Adventure, offered activities aimed at fostering family bonds and community engagement.

Tanya Wilson, Family Resource Network Facilitator for Cold Lake and District FCSS, highlighted the significance of hosting the event at Cowboy Town. She explained the venue is near Ardmore and regularly acts as a venue for weddings and other events.

"We just thought it would be a great place for us to host a family event where families can spend some quality time with their kids and alleviate that cost of the experience of the horse and wagons and renting the venue, basically."

The highlight of the event for families was enjoying picturesque horse drawn wagon rides around the property.

In addition to the wagon rides, the event showcased family-friendly activities, including scavenger hunts and farm hoppers. Wilson underscored the significance of these activities in enhancing family bonds, stating, "It helps the community because we're strengthening that family relationship and having that family relationship is really important and helps them to be able to engage with the community.”

She further highlighted the inclusivity of the event, noting, “We have everyone from one-year-olds to teens here today, so it offers families an opportunity to enjoy fun activities together with all members, rather than just focusing on their younger or older children."

Wilson also highlighted the FCSS's commitment to supporting the local community and small businesses through events like Cowboy Town Adventure.

"When we do plan our family adventure activities, we also do try to support the community and small businesses.”

Reflecting on the success of past events and the turnout at Cowboy Town Adventure, Wilson expressed satisfaction.

"Families just really enjoyed that chance to go out on the horse and have that experience, because a lot of kids... may or may not have access to... that wagon ride or anything like that.”

The event included about 76 registered participants this year.
