COLD LAKE - Despite rainy weather on Sunday morning, the Cold Lake Rainbow Run, held at Lions Park, was a colourful success.
Participants paid $5 per individual or $20 per family to join the event, which aimed to raise awareness and support for the 2SLGBTQI+ community during Pride Season.
“This is the third annual year doing it at this location,” said Clarissa Fadel, the Community Partnerships Facilitator for Cold Lake FCSS. “The Rainbow Run is an annual event held with the Cold Lake and District FCSS, so we are continuing that just to bring awareness to the 2SLGBTQ for Pride Season.”
The event featured various activities, including glitter tattoos and a bracelet-making station, lawn games, and craft stations, along the path.
“Each person will grab this craft and make it their own,” Fadel explained. “So. we can show our unity of our community.”
Kim Schmidtz, manager of Cold Lake and District FCSS, reported a solid turnout. "I just wanted to share some wonderful news in that our count of participants was actually higher than expected, we had 65 persons turn out this year, our highest number to date."
The run also served as a platform for promoting understanding and support.
“It's an opportunity to let community members know that we're here and supportive of providing education and spreading facts,” Schmidtz noted.
