Busy show season brings long list of wins for K-Cow Ranch

K-Cow Ranch is located between Elk Point and St. Paul.

ELK POINT - “An unbelievable day” started off Lloydminster’s Stockade Roundup in late October, according to Kailey Wirsta of K-Cow Ranch.

Hereford females were first on the day’s program, and a Hereford female originating in Lexi Wirsta’s K-Cow herd and now owned by Luke Germain of LG Cattle Co., St. Paul, started off a long lineup of wins. K-Cow Foxy 42H, born in 2020, and her 2024 calf, LJG Foxy 80M, was declared the Grand Champion Hereford Female with Calf at Foot at the Stockade Roundup, later becoming the Champion Senior Female at Farmfair and a CN Supreme Qualifier at Agribition.

The Stockade bull show that followed saw a trio of K-Cow’s 2024 Hereford bull calves open their 2024-25 show circuit by piling up six awards, beginning of a great show season for the three as they went on to qualify for other honours at Farmfair International in Edmonton, Canadian Western Agribition in Regina and January’s Peace Country Beef Congress in Grande Prairie.

K-Cow Mindbender 110M, born March 8, 2024, was named Stockade Roundup’s Grand Champion Hereford Bull and Champion Junior Bull Calf, while K-Cow Manhattan 106M, born Feb. 5, was named Champion Intermediate Bull Calf and Reserve Champion Hereford Bull, with the two later named the show’s Champion Pair of Bulls.

K-Cow Mustang 25M, born Jan.8, was Roundup’s Champion Senior Bull Calf. Mindbender 110M went on to be an Alberta Supreme Qualifier at Farmfair, a CN Supreme Qualifier at Agribition and one of the Top 6 People’s Choice Bulls in Peace Country.

Kailey, who exhibited the bull calves, also showed a Charolais bull calf in Lloydminster, with K-Cow Masterpiece 35M judged the Reserve Champion Bull Calf in the Charolais portion of the show.

Two K-Cow Hereford heifers exhibited by Kailey and Lexi’s parents, Kevin and Janice Wirsta, brought home awards from Lloydminster, one of them going on to win a pair of awards in Grande Prairie. K-Cow Teacup 15M was both Stockade Roundup’s Champion Senior Heifer Calf and Reserve Champion Hereford Female, while K-Cow Beauty 39M was the show’s Reserve Champion Senior Heifer Calf and later was named both Reserve Champion Junior Heifer and Reserve Champion Open Heifer at the Peace Country show.

There were more wins in the lineup. K-Cow Knockout 79K, born in 2022, was named both the Reserve Champion Senior Bull and Reserve Grand Champion Bull at Agribition.

Kailey says, "His show results at Agribition was one of our proudest moments. We're really highlighting him and his calves now,” with Knockout’s sons Manhattan 106M and Mustang 25M as part of K-Cow’s 2025 bull sale.

Another very special award came at the Peace Country show where Lexi was named the Champion Senior Showman, a perfect way to start off 2025.
