ELK POINT - Temporary service disruptions at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre emergency department are expected to take place throughout September, due to the hospital being without on-site physician coverage.

Dates affected by the temporary disruptions include:

  • 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4 to 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5
  • 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11 to 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 12
  • 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18 to 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19
  • 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25 to 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 26

According to Alberta Health Services (AHS), "Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department during these times, providing triage, assessments and referrals for patients to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities, as needed."

Patients should call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

"EMS will remain available to the community and will work with the local healthcare centre to ensure residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need," according to AHS.

Residents can also call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

The disruptions may be cancelled if physician coverage is found.

"This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time," according to AHS.
