ELK POINT – The young scientists at Elk Point Elementary School provided an array of 13 interesting and informative displays at the annual Science Fair on March 4, with seven of the entries qualifying for Awards of Excellence.
Grade 3 Awards of Excellence went to Aurora Van der Hoek and Kaelynn Wood, with their study of ‘Turtles,’ while Rory-Jo Pals explained in detail ‘What Happens When You Smoke.'
Three Awards of Excellence went to Grade 4 students, Raihan Chauhan with a very detailed ‘Waste Water Treatment Plant,’ Jasper Clough win an innovative ‘Corn Powered Rocket’ and the dynamic duo of Evelyn Prymak and Kenzie Leathem with their production of ‘Elephant Toothpaste.'
Aspyn Kelly and Jase Brousseau received the Grade 5 Award of Excellence for their experiment on ‘Hockey Stick Flex’ and Casey Bunney and Kyla LaPointe drew significant crowds as they demonstrated their Grade 6 Award of Excellence winner, ‘Using Water Instead of Electricity’ to power a lifting device.
Along with the Science Fair, the afternoon and early evening event also included the school’s annual book fair and student-led conferences where the students had an opportunity to show their parents what they have been working on and their achievements this far in the school year.
